Cebuano-tagalog text-to-speech mobile file reader - Cebu City CIT-U 2011

Text-to-speech refers to the conversion of written words to a voice output by means of speech synthesis which is an artificial way of allowing access to verbal communication in an alternative form. Text-to-speech technology refers to software and hardware that provides speech output from text input. Text-to-speech technology has a wide range of applications, one which falls on the field of mobile development.
This project aimed to develop a mobile application that can read a file or document written in Cebuano or Tagalog from mobile phones and convert it to speech. To accurately perform text-to-speech, text acronyms, abbreviations and shorthand words are expanded, text will be split into syllables, matched to their corresponding audio files, and played consecutively, generating an audio output.

Through this application, mobile phone users gain the capability of listening to their mobile files or documents instead of manually reading them, giving them the ability to do multitasking without stopping to read for that certain file or document. This application can also be a tool to assist individuals who are visually-impaired or those who have poor eyesight.
